Coming off a gret victory against the Stars on the road, the Hawks dropped a sloppy one against Nashville at home and fell to 7-7 on the season.
Anytime your goalie gives up three goals on six shots in the first period (and two on the first two shots of the game), you know it's just one of those nights. However, Nikolai Khabibulin seems prone to more of these nights than the average goaltender. Whether he just takes some games off, or he just isn't very good any more or maybe something in between is unsure. But whatever he is, he's what the Hawks have to work it.
Last night was another example of how a young team like the Hawks get down early and never complete the comeback, despite two goals from the vets Robert Lang (who's playing like a kid again) and Yanic Perreault's first goal as a Hawk.
If there's one thing to be noted about the season to date it's that Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews aren't just for real, they're among the best in the NHL. Believe the hype. In fact, they may be better than the hype. (Now watch as they go scoreless for the rest of the month/get injured and miss the rest of the season.) But the two continue to be dynamite together.
The Hawks take on Columbus on Wednesday and hope to avenge their loss earlier in the season to the Blue Jackets.
